With one eye on you, he’s always ready to laugh with you (or maybe even at you).

Most mornings, I’m greeted by 3 or 4 rainbow lorikeets rummaging through my gorgeous camellia trees. As I walk out the front door, they barely pause to suss me out before continuing their chaos — always with the side eye, then off being cheeky again. They’re stunning. Truly stunning.

There’s just something so beautiful about Australian native flora and fauna. I love trying to capture that dynamic movement of birds and plants with misregistered lines and expressive, gestural brushwork. It’s one of my favourite subjects to paint as I continue to draw inspo from everyday moments. And, you know I love a good story so giving them personalities is a huge part of the love.

You’re so cheeky, Leon. You’re going to be loved, for sure.
